CHAMPS: a brief Overview

CHAMPS is an educational and philanthropic program to educate children about the global landmine crisis. Working with state and local officials, MLI provides every school with a landmine map, teaching tools kit and ideas for integrating the landmine issue into classroom projects as well as participation tracking materials.

MLI, along with State Department officials, representatives from a mine-affected country and a mine detection dog and handler, will visit select schools for a demonstration and presentation on canine demining and present the opportunity for the school as a whole to" adopt" a dog.

The proposed fundraising structure asks that each student make a contribution of at least $0.25. One student that participates in every campaign is entered into a drawing to win a trip to Washington, DC to attend the Annual MLI Gala!

The state as a whole, a city, or even a school by itself can “adopt” a mine detection dog to be sent overseas. The dog is named after the donor state and kids can track its progress on the CHAMPS with pictures and updates on the MLI website.
