The
Marshall Legacy Institute
Promoting Hope, Growth and
Stability
Dear
Parent,
I
am writing about an exciting educational and philanthropic campaign that will
be kicking off throughout __(State Name)________ this (Month)
. As president of the
Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI), I am pleased to introduce this nonprofit
organization’s latest initiative entitled CHAMPS CHildren Against Mines
Program.
CHAMPS
is a two-week initiative designed to educate students about the global landmine
crisis, engage them in the worldwide effort to remove landmines and help to be
part of the solution to this devastating problem. CHAMPS first began in Wyoming, where the state’s students
together learned about the global landmine crisis and sponsored a landmine
detection dog that is now helping Sri Lanka recover from its two decades of civil
war.
(State)
now has the unique opportunity to become one of the first states
in the nation to adopt its very own mine detection dog, just like the
schoolchildren of Wyoming. The dog, to be
named (possible name of dog),
will be sent along with an elite team to a mine affected country like
Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ethiopia, or Sri Lanka to “sniff out”
landmines, save lives, and quickly restore the land to productive use for its
citizens.
The
goal is for each student to contribute as little as $0.25 in order to help
obtain, train and transport (possible name of dog) to its target
country. Regardless of the amount
contributed, each participating student will be entered into a grand prize
drawing for a package that includes:
Round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and tickets to attend the MLI
Awards Dinner in Washington, DC in (current school year) along with a parent or guardian.
CHAMPS
activities will be taking place in your child’s classroom beginning in (month),
order to provide students with:
● The experience of helping
children in another country through giving and sharing.
● The understanding of their
role in the global community.
● A unique project to fulfill
community service requirements.
● The opportunity to develop
their leadership skills by assisting others.
We
hope that you will support your child’s participation in this program. For more information about this program or
