Dear Faculty,

I am writing about an exciting educational and philanthropic campaign that will be kicking off throughout (name of State or school) this  (month) .  As president of the Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI), I am pleased to introduce this nonprofit organization’s latest initiative entitled CHAMPS CHildren Against Mines Program.

This year-long project presents (name of State or school) with the opportunity to “adopt a mine detection dog.” This canine hero will be trained and deployed to one of the four targeted countries for (current year), like Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, or Bosnia-Herzegovina, to help eradicate the scourge of landmines that are responsible for the death or maiming of an innocent life every thirty minutes.

Through CHAMPS, we hope to instill a sense of global citizenship and philanthropy in our youth, while raising funds for this very important cause.  The model proposes that through a one-time contribution of just $0.25 from each student, we may alleviate fear and promote hope, growth and stability in this developing country.   Some schools elect to run their own campaign to sponsor and name their own dog, but no matter how your school participates, please know that your contributions will save or improve the lives of thousands in a mine-affected country.

Along with this letter, you should also receive the “Participation Sheet”, “Dear Parents” letter template, “Classroom Teaching Tools”, “Web Resources”, a CHAMPS Overview,  and endorsement letters from the Humane Society of the United States and the United States Department of State .  These tools have been included to provide you with suggested activities and educational resources for your consideration.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the wonderful work being done by the Marshall Legacy Institute, feel free to call Kimberly McCasland, CHAMPS Director, at 703-243-9200.  Thank you in advance for your efforts!

Best regards,

Perry F. Baltimore III
