MLI has donated nearly 100 of the more than 825 Mine Detection Dogs (MDD’s) that are “sniffing out mines” in mine contaminated countries around the world.  Mine detection dog programs have been established in 27 of the whopping 72 mine affected countries so far!

If you want to help, join the CHAMPS program. It's just for kids!

As a CHAMPS kid you can:

Host a mine dog sniffing demonstration at your school

The CHAMPS Team will visit selected schools and bring a real Mine Detection Dog and handler to do a “simulated minefield demonstration” and show students just how smart these dogs are in finding LANDMINES!!  Sign up to have  your school selected for a visit < here >

Adopt your own mine detection dog
Training and transporting a mine detection dog is very expensive. It costs about $20,000 - but the work that they do is priceless. Adopting a dog, helps pay for these costs. For every quarter that you and your friends donate, you'll get a "sniffer dog" sticker from CHAMPS and M.L.I. partners will triple your donation. So your quarter becomes a dollar!

Nominate CHAMPS student leaders

Each campaign will have student leaders who are eligible for the Emerging Global Leader (EGL) Award to be given at MLI’s Annual Clearing the Path Gala. Student leaders are key in the development of State campaigns and are also eligible to attend meetings abroad with students from CHAMPS International.

Student leader, Alexis Keslinke, was awarded the Emerging Global Leader (EGL) Award at MLI’s Annual Clearing the Path Gala in May 2006.  Later she was invited to be one of the first students to travel to Bosnia to meet the life-saving dog she had helped to sponsor.

Organize different ways of raising money with your class
Check out some of the creative ways of raising money other students have come up with:

• A CHAMPS car wash: "Suds for support!"
Post signs around town explaining how people can help with a great cause!

• A CHAMPS bake sale: "Cookies for a cause"!
Get everyone's best recipes together and bake away. Contact your local newspaper or TV station to let them know about your project. everyone loves a good brownie!

• A CHAMPS collection can: "Change for change!"
you can ask your local supermarket, harware store, pet supply store, etc. if you can leave collection can on their counters. Wrap the cans in bright paper that briefly explains the work of the dogs and CHAMPS.
• A CHAMPS Walk-a-Thon: " Stroll for support!"
Organize a local Walk-a-Thon in your community. People love to get outside and walk together for a great cause.
• A CHAMPS Silent Auction: "bid a better life!"
Organize a silent auction in your town. Kids at the Apollo Jr. High School in TX did and raised over half the funds for a mine detection dog in one night!

• A CHAMPS bracelet sale: "Bracelets for Bosnia!"
CHAMPS has white "miracle" bracelets available to schools to sell.
You can show your support by wearing one and selling many!

• A CHAMPS movie: "films for foreign lands!"
Some students have created their own movies to show others about their individual campaign and illustrate the landmine problem in their own words.
• A CHAMPS website: "Web the world!"
Certain schools and kids have created their own website to educate others about CHAMPS. There is also a section in our CHAMPS Zone where you can check these sites out!

As a CHAMPS kid you can help change the world by learning about problems that affect others and make a difference. A little knowledge and kindness make the world a better place for everyone!
